Matheson Hammock Park & Marina

Matheson Hammock Park is a waterfront city park in Coral Gables built around a distinctive atoll pool, a man-made saltwater lagoon that stays calm even when Biscayne Bay is choppy, making it a favorite for young swimmers and families. Visitors come to swim, kayak, fish, launch boats from the marina, or walk the mangrove-lined paths and picnic areas shaded by palm trees.

The park also draws kiteboarders and cyclists, with bike rentals available on-site. Amenities include picnic tables, grills, restrooms, a playground, and both free street parking and a paid lot.

Open daily from 8am to 5pm, admission includes parking fees rather than a per-person entrance charge. It's a low-key alternative to Miami's ocean beaches, popular with local families and regulars who return year after year, though the lagoon has experienced periodic water-quality closures.
