About Shark Valley Visitor Center

Shark Valley Visitor Center is the primary entry point to the Shark Valley section of Everglades National Park, located on Tamiami Trail (SW 8th Street) about 25 miles west of Miami. The visitor center features educational exhibits, a gift shop run by the Florida National Parks Association, and informational brochures about the surrounding ecosystem.

The real draw is the 15-mile paved loop trail accessible only by foot, bicycle, or narrated open-air tram. The 2-hour guided tram tour — led by NPS-trained naturalists — winds through sawgrass prairies teeming with alligators, herons, and other wildlife before stopping at a 65-foot concrete observation tower offering panoramic views of the River of Grass.

Bicycle rentals are also available on-site. Tram tour tickets are priced at $34 for adults, $26 for seniors, and $18 for children.

A separate NPS entrance fee applies. Peak season runs December through April, when parking fills by 10 AM on weekends.

Wheelchair accessible with accessible restrooms and boardwalk trail.

The dry season from November through April is the best time to visit Shark Valley for wildlife viewing, as alligators and birds concentrate around shrinking water sources. Summer visits are possible but expect intense heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms with minimal shade on the trail.
