About Miami Design Preservation League

The Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) is the nonprofit organization responsible for preserving and celebrating Miami Beach's world-famous Art Deco Historic District. Located at 1001 Ocean Drive in the heart of South Beach, MDPL operates the Art Deco Welcome Center, the Art Deco Museum, and an official gift shop — all open daily from 9am to 5pm.

The organization's flagship offering is the Official Art Deco Walking Tour, a 90–120 minute guided experience departing daily at 10:30am that covers Art Deco, Mediterranean Revival, and Miami Modern (MiMo) architectural styles. Tour tickets include free museum admission.

Walking tours are priced from $40 per adult and advance booking is encouraged due to limited availability. Beyond tours, MDPL hosts lectures, community events, and the beloved annual Art Deco Weekend festival.

The welcome center also serves as a visitor information hub for Miami Beach and surrounding areas. Members enjoy free walking tours and other benefits starting at $75 annually.

Best Times

The Miami Design Preservation League and its walking tours are enjoyable year-round, but the cooler, drier months from October through April offer the most comfortable outdoor walking conditions. Mornings are best to avoid afternoon heat and peak tourist crowds along Ocean Drive. The annual Art Deco Weekend festival in January draws large crowds and is a particularly festive time to visit. Advance booking for the 10:30am walking tour is always recommended, especially during winter high season and holiday weekends.
