The official gateway to Miami Beach's iconic Art Deco Historic District — architecture, history, and walking tours on Ocean Drive

About Art Deco Welcome Center

The Art Deco Welcome Center, operated by the Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL), is the official starting point for exploring one of the world's greatest concentrations of Art Deco architecture. Located at 1001 Ocean Dr in South Beach's Flamingo/Lummus neighborhood, the center includes a small but informative Art Deco Museum, an official gift shop stocked with posters, books, jewelry, and vintage memorabilia, and a knowledgeable staff ready to help visitors plan their South Beach experience.

MDPL's highly acclaimed guided walking tours depart from here daily, covering historic hotels along Ocean Drive — from the Victor to the Cardoza — with expert commentary on Streamline, Tropical, and Mediterranean Deco styles. The district spans over 960 historic buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979.

Admission to the Welcome Center is free; walking tours are priced at $40 per person. Open daily 9 AM–5 PM, the center is wheelchair accessible, LGBTQ+ friendly, and great for families, first-time visitors, and architecture enthusiasts alike.

The Art Deco Welcome Center is open year-round, but the most comfortable time to visit Miami Beach is between October and April when temperatures are mild and humidity is lower. The annual Art Deco Weekend festival in January draws large crowds to Ocean Drive, making it a spectacular but crowded time to visit. Summer months can be hot and humid, though the indoor museum and gift shop offer relief.
