About Deering Estate

Deering Estate is one of South Florida's most extraordinary destinations — a 444-acre National Register of Historic Places landmark owned by the State of Florida and managed by Miami-Dade County Parks. Spread along Biscayne Bay in Palmetto Bay, the estate encompasses eight distinct natural habitats including Pine Rocklands, Tropical Hardwood Hammocks, and mangrove-lined coastline, alongside two historic houses (Richmond Cottage and the Stone House, currently under restoration).

Visitors can explore 10,000 years of human history through daily guided museum tours, kayak adventures, bird walks, sunrise photography sessions, and rotating contemporary art exhibitions. General admission starts at $10 for children and $18 for adults, with the last ticket sold at 4 PM.

The estate is family-friendly, wheelchair accessible, and hosts a vibrant calendar of seasonal events including the annual Seafood Festival, night hikes, and Artist-in-Residence programs. Manatees are regularly spotted from the boat basin, making it one of Miami's most memorable wildlife encounters.

Best Times

The best time to visit Deering Estate is October through April, when Miami's dry season brings cooler temperatures and lower humidity — ideal for outdoor hiking and kayaking. Naturalist-led preserve tours only run during this period. Weekday mornings tend to be the least crowded, while Sundays see the highest visitor volume, especially in the early afternoon. Summer visits are possible but mosquitoes are more prevalent, and outdoor programs are reduced. Avoid national holidays when the estate closes (Christmas and Thanksgiving).
